With the emergence of video podcasts and live video podcasts, that also raises the question: what to wear to a live podcast? Since most live podcasts nowadays are remote I will focus on clothing that works on live podcasts that are produced with the host in one place and the guest somewhere else.

Look at the framing
Framing on virtual live podcasts is certainly different from recording in a studio or at a conference together. I would never think to wear slippers while doing a live show at a conference obviously. But nobody will see them on a live remote show.
Before deciding what to wear, the framing matters. As an example, here’s how a 6×19 stream looks. (These would usually work on TikTok, Instagram). On YouTube and LinkedIn, you can stream vertically, but it doesn’t look that great.
As a visual, here’s how my framing looks on a vertical live:
So you can barely see my shirt and definitely can’t see my pants. On a horizontal stream, which I do most of the time because of LinkedIn Live and the broadcast on television, here’s how much of my clothes viewers can see:
Stay with your style (and the show’s style)
When it comes to what to wear to a live podcast, consider your own style and what the host usually wears. If it’s super formal, go a bit more formal. If it’s more casual, go with that style. But after all, you want to be on brand for what’s right for you.
For me, I hardly ever wear a suit and tie anymore as it is. And I definitely don’t wear them on my podcast. Usually I go for a more casual look and at times even wear a hat.

Clothes I wear to live podcasts
Here are some of the options that I commonly wear when going live:
Light long-sleeve turtleneck
Quarter zip sweater (white)
Hanes Cotton Blend Pullover

Long Sleeve Henley Shirt (various colors)
Maelreg pullover
For me, those products work for me when it comes to deciding what to wear to a live podcast. At the end of the day, decide how you want to look in a live broadcast and assume a lot of people will see it.
