Adobe invited me out to Las Vegas for their North American conference as one of 16 social media insiders. (See the whole list here.)
First of all, what does that mean to be an insider? It means they invited me, I am attending for free and am encouraged to share my thoughts on the conference publicly on Twitter, my blog and other digital channels.
And while I’m an invited attendee, there are no editorial guidelines (other than to share that disclaimer) or restrictions on what I tweet or blog about. I’m asked to share my own opinions and point of views.
As a former journalist and somebody whose content marketing and communications work is based on many journalism principals, at first I wondered if that’s even possible. Can you share things honestly as an invited guest? Do you really criticize somebody’s dinner when they invited you to their house to eat it?
I feel a bit like I have to find some negative things to share. ??
But ultimately it’s not about me judging the event, host or really anybody.
More blog posts:
It’s about a number of different things:
- Learning new things.
- Connecting with others.
- Sharing highlights that all of you might be interested in.
- Las Vegas weather forecast-70 and 80°. Iowa weather forecast mid 40s. ? ☀ Enough said!
So the plan is to tweet along on Twitter, do a few Periscopes – which technically is Twitter too now, and potentially file some blog posts.
Of course any blog post topic will be weighed against my usual requirements:
- Do I have anything unique to say?
- Does it have anything to do with storytelling?
- Do I think at least some of you will care to read it?
- Am I interested enough in the topic myself to even want to write about it?
Those are pretty much the four key considerations before I do a blog about anything on here. That won’t change for this event.
Some of the other insiders are holding their regular Twitter chats while they are at the event. I will likely participate but given that Twitter chats are virtual events I’m not exactly sure why I need to be sitting next to them at the event to participate.
If you are attending the summit I’m looking forward to seeing you there and if you can’t attend I hope you have a chance to check out #AdobeSummit over on Twitter while the event is going on March 21 through the 23rd.
How I’m getting to the summit:
